Because you need to know the truth

There are so many important reasons to determine your child’s paternity. You get the answers you need to take the next steps, from establishing relationships to contributing financial support. Your child gets a sense of identity, support to enjoy life and, later on, useful information for treating genetic diseases.

How are paternity DNA tests done?

Paternity DNA tests are simple and accurate. All we need to determine paternity is a mouth swab from the child and the alleged father. Paternity DNA tests compare the profile of the child with the profile of the alleged father to determine a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ match. It’s 99.999% accurate.

Is there a way to determine paternity if the father isn’t available?

In cases where the alleged father is not available for testing, an Avuncular test or Y-Chrom (Y-STR) test can be done between the child and parental relatives or siblings. We also offer a wide range of Forensic testing for instances when sample collection with a mouth swab is not available. Maternity testing is also available.

What if father and child are in different cities?

We have DNA testing facilities in locations across Canada to make it easy for you to get answers and results, even if you live in different cities.

If you’re having a legal test done and you live in the same city, but you’re not comfortable seeing one another, we can arrange separate appointments at no additional cost.

If you’re having a private test done for peace of mind, we can send split kits out to different addresses for each person being tested at no additional cost. Each kit is identified by a unique number to assure all samples are match up accordingly once received back at the laboratory.

Do you need private or legal DNA testing?

There are two types of DNA tests available: legal and private. Our fully accredited laboratory follows the same rigorous high quality standards when processing both legal and private cases; the only difference is in the documentation procedures at the time of collection.

Legal, court-admissible cases require a chain of custody of the sample, which must be drawn from an approved Canadian DNA Services collection site. When DNA test results will be used for legal purposes, such as child support, social security, or custody matters, Legal DNA tests are required. Legal testing requires scheduling a collection appointment.

Private DNA tests provide the same information as a legal DNA test; but they are not intended for use in a court of law and are not considered court-admissible. They do not have special collection requirements and can be collected in the privacy of your home.

Private DNA Tests

Private DNA tests are treated the same as legal DNA tests in the laboratory, and they’re just as accurate. The difference is you can collect the DNA yourself in the comfort of your own home. You will receive your kit in the mail along with easy-to-follow instructions, collection envelopes, mouth swabs and a Chain of Custody form. We also include a self-addressed envelope so you can send back your samples for testing.

If you’re having a private test done for peace of mind, we can send split kits out to different addresses for each person being tested at no additional cost. Each kit is identified by a unique number to assure all samples are match up accordingly once received back at the laboratory.

Once received at our laboratory, your results will be ready within 5 to 7 business days, or for an additional $100.00 you can add a rush analysis which ensures your results are completed within 3 to 5 business days.

Legal DNA tests

If you need a legal DNA test done, you can choose to come into one of our convenient testing locations across Canada or have a mobile unit sent to your home or work. During the collection process, the individuals tested are positively identified through photographs and government-issued identification. Certified DNA specialists collect the DNA by doing a simple and painless mouth swab from the inside of the cheek. All information is documented on a Chain of Custody, which ensures all test results are accredited and legally admissible.

Once received at our laboratory, your results will be ready within 5 to 7 business days, or for an additional $100.00 you can add a rush analysis which ensures your results are completed within 3 to 5 business days.
